Privacy Policy

Back

Last updated: 9 October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how coachandbusmarket.com (“CBM”, “we”, “us”) collects and uses personal information, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who uses CBM: visitors, free members, subscribers, vehicle sellers and the businesses listed on the site.

1. Who we are

CBM is owned and run by Coach and Bus Week Limited, which also publishes CBW Magazine. Coach and Bus Week Limited is the data controller for the personal information described here.

Coach and Bus Week Limited, Unit 3, The Office Village, Forder Way, Peterborough, PE7 8GX, United Kingdom.
Company number: 08080241 (registered in England and Wales).
Privacy questions: sarah@cbwmagazine.com

2. Free membership and subscription

CBM is a members-only site. Both kinds of membership give the same full access. The difference is how we use your information:

  • Free membership is funded by the information you see and receive. We keep a record of what you do on CBM for up to 24 months and use it, together with the interests you choose, to send you information that is relevant to you: the CBM newsletter (at most weekly) and offers and invitations from CBM and from suppliers on CBM (no more than one supplier message a week). These messages are sent by CBM. We do not give your details to suppliers for them to market to you.
  • Subscription (paid yearly) means no CBM marketing emails and no record of what you do on the site. We only send you messages about your account and your subscription. Subscribers still see the adverts on the site.

You can switch between free and subscription at any time from My Dashboard. If you are a free member and you unsubscribe from our emails, your free membership ends, because the emails are what fund it. You can choose a subscription instead, or ask us to restore free membership.

3. What we collect

  • When you register: your name, job title, company, business type, county, email address and password (stored only in scrambled, encrypted form, so we cannot read it), and, for free members, the interests you tick.
  • Your membership record: whether you are free or a subscriber, and a record of exactly which version of the registration offer and of this Privacy Policy you agreed to, and when. We do not store your IP address for this.
  • Free members’ activity record: while you are signed in, which vehicles, manufacturers, dealers, suppliers and finance companies you view, what you search for, and which adverts, website links and Contact Me buttons you click. This is kept for up to 24 months and then deleted automatically. It is not recorded for subscribers.
  • If you sell a vehicle: the advert details you give us, including the vehicle, its location, your contact phone number and seller location, and the package you buy.
  • If you pay us: payments are taken by Stripe. We receive confirmation of payment and your billing details for your VAT invoice; we never see or store your full card number.
  • If you contact us by email, the contact form or live chat: what you send us.
  • Site counts: we count views and clicks of listings and adverts so we can report traffic to sellers and advertisers. These reports show totals, not who you are.

4. When your details go to another business

We never sell your details. Your details are only passed to another business when you take an action that we have told you, in advance and at that point, will result in your details being passed, and to whom.

If you are a subscriber, we also show you the details first, and nothing is passed on until you confirm.

Once a business has your details, it is responsible for how it uses them.

5. Services we use

We use trusted service providers who handle information only on our instructions:

  • our website hosting provider (the site and its backups);
  • Stripe (card payments and yearly subscriptions);
  • Drip (sending our newsletters and marketing emails);
  • Microsoft 365 (sending account and service emails);
  • Tawk.to (the live chat on the site);
  • YouTube and Vimeo (videos shown on some pages; we use YouTube’s reduced-cookie player) and Google Fonts (the site’s lettering).

Some of these providers may process information outside the UK. Where they do, the transfer is protected by UK adequacy regulations or the UK’s approved data transfer agreements. We may also share information where the law requires it, or to protect CBM and its members from fraud or misuse.

6. Our legal reasons for using your information

  • Your agreement (consent): the free membership activity record and the newsletter, offers and invitations sent to free members. You can withdraw this at any time by switching to subscription or unsubscribing.
  • Contract: running your account, your subscription and any vehicle advert you buy, and passing your details on when you take an action we have told you will do so (section 4).
  • Legitimate interests: keeping the site secure and members-only, preventing scraping, fraud and misuse, counting site traffic, and sending service messages about your account.
  • Legal obligation: keeping payment and VAT records.

7. How long we keep it

  • Free members’ activity record: up to 24 months, then deleted automatically.
  • Your account: until you close it or it has been unused for a long period.
  • Removed vehicle adverts: about one year, then deleted.
  • Payment and VAT records: six years, as the law requires.
  • Records of what you agreed to: for as long as we need to show what you agreed to and when.

8. Cookies

CBM uses a small number of cookies that the site needs to work:

  • Sign-in cookies keep you signed in (for up to 90 days if you tick “Keep me signed in”).
  • A returning-visitor cookie lets us show a quick “Welcome back” sign-in box (one year).
  • A country preference cookie remembers whether you chose the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland view (one year).
  • Your browser may also remember the email address you last signed in with, on your own device only.
  • The live chat and embedded videos may set their own cookies when used.

We do not currently use advertising cookies or third-party analytics. If we add them, we will update this policy first and ask for your agreement where the law requires it.

9. Keeping it safe

Listing details are only shown to signed-in members, passwords are stored encrypted, the site uses a secure (https) connection, and access to member information is limited to CBM staff who need it.

10. Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, to delete it, to stop or limit how we use it, or to have it in a form you can take elsewhere. You can withdraw your agreement at any time, and change your interests, switch membership or unsubscribe from My Dashboard. To make a request, email sarah@cbwmagazine.com. We will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113) or, in the Republic of Ireland, the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).

11. Wherever you are

CBM is run from the United Kingdom and follows UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). For members and visitors in the Republic of Ireland and the rest of the European Union, we follow the EU General Data Protection Regulation, which gives the same rights described above. We give these same rights and protections to every member and visitor, whichever country they are in.

If the law where you live gives you further rights, we will respect them. In particular, we do not sell personal information or share it for cross-site advertising, as those terms are used in US state privacy laws such as California’s. You may complain to the data protection authority in your own country.

12. Who CBM is for

CBM is a business site for the coach, bus and minibus industry and is not intended for anyone under 18.

13. Changes to this policy

We keep every version of this policy with the date it was introduced, and a record of which version each member agreed to. If we make an important change, we will tell members before it takes effect.
